Substrate cultivation has many advantages. The plants are easier to control for growers in greenhouse horticulture. We struggle in horticulture with different types of pathogens that can cause root diseases. Diseases are the main reasons for the losses. These diseases are often contagious. There are several ways to deal with the diseases. In the cultivation of plants, the growers often opt for the total disinfection of soil life. But there is a new strategy that is much more advanced and that keeps plants healthier. Aerobic biological purification uses natural cycle processes. The creation of optimal process conditions accelerates the degradation process, which means that the water is purified of pathogenic fungus. In an oxygen-rich environment, microorganisms break down organic material. Oxidation of organic material results in the formation of mainly mineral components. Treatment of Pathogenic Fungi
A study by Eurofins into the pathogenic fungi present in the root environment shows clear results. The plants without aeration showed strong symptoms of Pythium, while the plants with aeration had significantly better root development and showed no symptoms of Pythium.
